How do I prove I have proficient English?

Proficient English gives you 10 points in the SkillSelect points test. To claim proficient English you must provide of one of the following:

24 for listening,
24 for reading,
27 for writing and,
23 for speaking,

The test must have been taken within three years immediately before lodging the visa application.

  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic – you have achieved a score of at least 65 in each of the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing) and the test was taken within three years immediately before lodging the visa application.
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test – you have achieved a score of at least 185 in each of the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing) and the test was taken on or after 1 January 2015 and prior to lodging the visa application.

Note that some skills assessing authorities require applicants to meet specific English language test scores.
