What Are The Costs

How much will it cost to migrate to Australia?

Below are some of the costs involved in migrating to Australia. Please note that all costs and charges are in Australian dollars (AUD) and payment must be made in Australian dollars. The costs below do not include our professional fee.

Skills Assessment:

Before you lodge an application for General Skilled Migration, you will need to apply for skills assessment with the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation. Charges apply when submitting a standard skills assessment application for migration purposes and vary depending on the assessing authority and whether you apply for any optional assessments.

English Competence Testing

All applicants must meet the English language requirement for skilled migration, that is, at least competent English language ability for the primary applicant.

The cost of English language tests can be found at:

State Nomination

If you are considering nomination by a state or territory government, or require the points for state or territory nomination, an application fee is payable to the state or territory government on lodgement of a state nomination application (you should allow between $200-$300). However, some states such as Victoria and the Northern Territory do not charge a fee.

Medical Costs

You and members of your family will be required to meet Australia’s health requirement. This involves taking a medical examination, x-ray (adults) and, depending on your country of birth, HIV tests (for adults).  Please check with the Panel Doctor you make an appointment with about the expected cost of these examinations. Dependants who are not migrating with you must also take the medical examinations.

Character and police certificate requirements

You should also be prepared to pay other costs associated with your visa application, such as police checks in your country and any other country you lived in for 12 months or more, including Australia, in the past 10 years. These apply to you and members of your family who are 16 years old and over at the time of visa application.

Other Costs

There will also be costs for certification of documents and certified translations of documents not issued in English.

Visa Application Charge

Visa Application Charges are usually subject to adjustment on 1 July each year. To check the Visa Application Charge applicable when you lodge your visa application, check the Department of Immigration and Border Protection fees and charges.

Payment is generally not refunded if the application is unsuccessful.

Second Instalment Visa Application Charge (English language tuition)

Members of your family unit (secondary applicants) included in your application who are aged 18 years or over and who are able to demonstrate functional English ability (eg. obtain an overall band score of 4.5 on the IELTS) or who provide a Certificate of English as the Medium of Instruction (CEMI) do not have to pay the Second Instalment Visa Application Charge.

A CEMI will meet the requirement for functional English if it confirms that the secondary applicant:

  • Completed a degree, a higher degree, a diploma or a trade certificate that required at least two years of full-time study or training in an institution in or outside Australia and all instructions were in English.
  • Successfully completed at least one year of full-time study or equivalent part-time study towards a degree, higher degree, diploma, or associate diploma in an institution in Australia and all instructions were in English.
  • Completed at least five years of secondary education in an institution in or outside Australia and all instructions were in English.
  • Completed all years of primary education and at least three years of secondary education in an educational institution in or outside Australia and all instructions were in English.

Members of your family unit aged 18 years or over included in your application who are not able to provide proof of functional English language skills or who cannot provide a CEMI will be required to pay the Second Instalment Visa Application charge before a visa can be granted. This charge will entitle them to English language tuition in Australia to achieve functional English.
